When I began photography as a young teen, I had the opportunity to photograph a toddler in her hospital room. She had a terminal illness, and her mom and grandmothers dressed her in her fanciest dresses for the photo shoot. It was the most wonderful feeling for me, and my heart, mind, and hands were forever intertwined to fulfill one purpose: photograph people the best I can, so someone will have a beautiful memory to hold in their hands when that loved is gone.
And so it has been as time has passed. It is the most blessed reward for me to hear, "Thank you so much for the pictures you have taken. They mean more than words can say now."
A sister, daughter, friend, mother, father, brother, son... All who stand on the other side of my lens are captured as one of these. I am thankful for my love of photography.
Below are some special memories I had the privilege to capture for the Hopkins family. Their sweet daughter went to heaven shortly after these photographs were made.
These portraits were made at Waveland State Historic Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
