Photojournalism - Telling a Story with Photography

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

I've been in a self-evaluating mindset, in regards to my photography purpose, in the last days as Kentucky has begun to shut everything down because of the Coronavirus. It's been good for me, that struggle within trying to find my niche, but it has ultimately come back to my first love of photojournalism. The niche, if you will, is just my first love. My love is to tell your story. That's what drives me behind the lens. It doesn't really matter if it's a wedding or a family's special event; it's the story that is yours and yours alone that I want to capture!!!

I compiled a collection of Christian ladies' testimonies of how God helped them through their trials, and that's because I'm driven to hear other peoples' stories. They inspire me. The book is called, God's Amazing Grace Overflowing. All of the projects on my photography bucket list are photojournalistic in nature. I began my love of photography 30+ years ago, because of war photography images I was captivated by and documenting the lives of folks in Eastern Kentucky.

So, I ventured outside with my son to try to tell part of his story today - he loves history, particularly studying guns and war-time periods. He loves listening to G.A. Henty stories. I was super pleased with the results, and I look forward to telling the story of my future clients when all of this social distancing is over.

I'm making my list of some of your stories I want to photograph!
